  1. Promontory Point
Most “Free Chicago” lists mention the lakefront trail. One of the best things to do in Hyde Park, though, is head to the Point, situated along the trail. It’s a hotspot for locals and families with scenic skyline views that make the perfect background for your Instagram pics. Grab your bike and head to the Point for a picnic, a photoshoot, or just to enjoy the sunset.

Garden of the Phoenix is an awesome thing to do in Hyde Park

  1. Garden of the Phoenix
Did you know Chicago has a Japanese-inspired park on the water? It’s called the Garden of the Phoenix (sometimes referred to as Osaka Garden), and it’s on Wooded Island, part of Jackson Park.

Jackson Park and Garden of the Phoenix lie just south of The Museum of Science and Industry. The pavilion, which still stands today, was created as part of the World’s Columbian Exposition. During the 1930s, the City of Chicago restored the pavilion (then about 40 years old) and added the Japanese garden to enhance the area.

Today, locals love heading to the park in spring to take pictures of the cherry blossoms in bloom.

  1. Washington Park
If your summer activities include cookouts and hanging with friends, you must add Washington Park to your list of things to do in Hyde Park. Washington Park, home of the Bud Billiken Parade each year, symbolizes the community and gathering of Southsiders from all walks of life.

There’s plenty of space for activities, from fishing to tennis to basketball and beyond. Enjoy a walk through the Sculpture Garden, just north of DuSable Museum of African American History, or simply take in the sights of a warm summer’s day on the lagoon. 2. Main Quadrangle
Whether you’re a student or not, you can appreciate a waltz through the Main Quadrangle on The University of Chicago’s campus.

Located just west of 57th St and University Ave., Main Quadrangle encompasses you in ivy-covered Gothic architecture. If you’re ever dreamt of what Hogwarts might look like, this has to come close! It’s lush greenery, small creeks, and gorgeous landscaping makes it a pleasant place to read or study for summer classes. There is plenty of shade underneath the honeylocust trees and enjoy the picturesque scenery.
